About Myself
With hard work, enough Practice and right attitude you can do anything!
My Journey till now
1985-2013
I was born on a chilly evening of November 1985 in Nisarpur town of Dhar district in Madhya Pradesh and may be hence I was named Sharad as the word denotes winter season in Hindi.
As deep as my memory goes adventure was part of my life since the day I learned to walk and next thing for me was going outdoors!
My first big adventure was that 9 kms solo escape run at 04:00 AM from Navodaya Vidyalaya, Pichore to Dabra in Madhya Pradesh, India at the age of 9 in 1994, will definitely write this story separately.
I learned to ride motorcycle at the age of 16 with my father’s Royal Enfield Tauras (diesel) but could manage only few short rides in school as minimum age for Driving Licence in India is 18. But since then only I started wondering how far can I go with these two wheels!
Meanwhile in 2002 I wrote my first hindi veer ras poem ‘Jagran’ which was followed by many more as I took admission in Oriental Institute of Science And Technology, Bhopal to study Electronics & Communication Engineering Branch in the batch of 2003-2007.
I lived in hostel for first two years which contributed to my perspectives towards other humans and my own personality a lot.
While I totally enjoyed the freedom to express myself in behaviour and started doing small big rides on a 100 cc Hero Honda Passion given by my father, soon I realised that to fulfil my passion of riding motorcycle for longer and longer distances I will need lot of money and better machines.
In my third year of engineering I got placed in first company I sat in for campus placement, Capgemini (then Kanbay) which was a great shock to many batchmates and teachers as they always saw me more on stage doing skits or narrating poems than in the classes.
Right after placement I took a vow in my mind that I will buy a Royal Enfield within one month of joining the company.
In 2007 I got passed out of college dramatically on time in May yet there was no joining date from Capgemini hence I purpose fully for the time being took a job with a telecom company called GTL as BSS Engineer as I wanted to work in a core company. In my officially first job my job was to travel to different mobile tower sites throughout many districts of Madhya Pradesh like Indore, Satna, Rewa, Sidhi, Shahdol, Panna and Chhatarpur. I loved this job, even though salary was not much, as it resembled with my interest of travelling. In a brief span of 7 months with GTL I traveled in cabs, buses, shared cabs and also on foot. I also did my first big mountain trek on Thar pahad near Gupt Godavari in Chitrakoot, MP in 2007 as there was a repeater site on it’s top. I was the first engineer to install the airtel network in MP side of Chitrakoot as engineers were afraid to work in this area because of Dacoits specially Dadua. I also got a chance to meet Dadua during one of my night excursion at Thar Pahad.
In January 2008 I forcibly joined Capgemini (as family wanted me to do white collar job and not field work) and got trained in Business Intelligence and Datawarehousing tools along with buying my first own motorcycle Royal Enfield Electra 5SDBES 350cc (I named it Garun) which was followed by many day trips around Pune.
In 2009 I got relocated to Hyderabad which I opted so that I could settle my overflowing credit cards with the relocation settlement from the company.
I did my first overnight rides in Hyderabad and explored places like Srisailam, Tirupathi and Suryalanka through weekend rides.
Soon I realised that I need to move towards North India if I want to ride the Himalayas.
In 2010 I switched my job to IBM and got relocated to Delhi NCR. And within couple of months of joining IBM I bought my second motorcycle Royal Enfield Classic 500 EFI towards the end of 2010 which I named Hamilton and since then my rides to the Himalayas started.
As I can remember my first motorcycle ride in Himalayas was Mussorie, Dhanaulti from Delhi in 2010 itself.
In 2011 I officially joined a Delhi NCR based Royal Enfield motorcycle club called Bikeblazers and I moved on in my quest of ‘how long and remote can I go with these two wheels!’
In the next two years I did numerous road trips in the Himalayas of Uttrakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir along with which I also did fabulous in my IT career with IBM.
In 2012 there were these two trips which completely changed my mindset towards riding and travelling. One was in April towards Spiti and other one was in August towards Ladakh. In both the rides I was the one who had planned & executed the trip and I was also the one who was most affected by high altitude sickness or famously called as AMS in the group.
In Spiti I tried to camp in Losar (4090 MTS ASL) reaching there directly from Tabo and in Ladakh I was camping in Tso Kar (4530 MTS ASL) coming directly from Khoksar and almost faced death at both places due to wrong planning (ignoring acclimatisation) and bad eating(ate oily and junk food). After coming back from Ladakh ride I took the high altitude challenge and totally changed my lifestyle subsequently reaching 98 kgs of weight by May 2013 from 128 in November 2012. In my mind I took a vow to do at-least 10 high altitude road trips organised & executed in a way that I don’t get affected by AMS.
This change also improved my fitness drastically and then I was ready to take upon bigger high altitude challenges in the Himalayas but then I realised my trip spans can hardly go beyond a week till I am employed in a company of somebody else!
In June 2013 I founded Himalayan Monk Riders Associates Private Limited (HMRA) along with three other likeminded friends with the motto of organising motorcycle rides all over the Himalayas as I understood that a proper guidance from educated experienced riders was really lacking in Indian motorcycle touring industry organising rides in high altitude regions of Himalayas.
In 2013 only I managed to successfully lead my first Ladakh ride professionally for HMRA and I also moved to the Himalayas by leasing a land nearby to Beas river in Bhuntar (Kullu) where I we made few eco-friendly bamboo huts and I started working remotely for IBM from there.
Meanwhile I wrote lot of poems but lost most of them as I lost the diaries in which I wrote them and since then I decided to have a mandatory copy of my writings on digital devices and internet.
In December 2013 after my third winter ride to Gangotri in Uttrakhand I submitted my resignation for choosing Himalayas between Himalayas and USA H1B visa.
2014-Present
I had my last day with IBM in January 2014 as I opted to cut short my notice period of 3 months and after that my real struggle for pursuing my passion as full time profession started.
I understood that though now I had all the time and skill in the world to follow my passion of motorcycle riding in the Himalayas but there was no hefty salary or initial funds to support it.
I had to earn it by crafting and executing itineraries of road trips only and it proved to be a really tough task to sell motorcycle trips in India of those days.
But more than struggle I took it as a challenge and an adventure of a sort and instead of all other founders leaving HMRA by the end of 2014 I kept on pursuing my dreams and ran the company single handedly doing all the jobs like developing websites (learned wordpress, html, css and PHP along with Java), crafting itineraries, making posters (learned Corel Draw for graphic designing), maintaining social media, running ad campaigns, tele-calling for sales and leading the trips as well!
In 2014 I also shifted my base from Bhunter (Kullu) to Shanghar in Sainj valley where I went first in 2013 via trek from Neuli but now in 2014 it had a motorable road and 4G network with lots of raw unexplored natural beauty and possibilities of eco & adventure tourism.
Another thought which pulled me to the very remote Shanghar from a city like Kullu is that I wanted to live completely away from markets & mobs and wanted to live a life of minimalism and I found Shanghar as the perfect place for that.
Through 2014 to 2015 I explored more of Ladakh, Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh and organised, lead and executed several road trips in those Himalayan regions.
In 2015 I also founded Enfield Monk (www.enfieldmonk.com) and HMRA Infosystems (www.hmrainfosystems.com) and HMRA Power (renewable energy solutions).
Meanwhile I shifted my writing focus more on short and long stories and less on poems as I found it really difficult to find a publisher for a book of Hindi poems!
From 2015 to 2017 I successfully organised and lead more than 30 motorcycle expeditions in regions of Ladakh and Spiti and forget me, nobody from my rides ever fell ill of AMS and this was an actual achievement for me for which I got myself tattooed with ‘om mane padme hum’ flags on my arm to cherish my achievement for ever.
Meanwhile I also worked upon the possibilities of bringing the tourism to remote Shanghar village so that poverty here can be reduced and young lads around can be moved to legal jobs of trekking etc from illegal stuffs in the National Park.
Shanghar lies in the eco-zone of India’s youngest and one of the most important national park called as the Great Himalayan National Park (GHNP) which apart from being one of twelve bio-diversity hotspots in the world, is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Before 2014 I hardly did one overnight trek, Dayara bugyal in Uttarkashi in Uttrakhand state but after started living in Shanghar I increased frequency of doing treks.
i did first professional recce of beginner treks in GHNP eco-zone like Thini Top (2 Nights 3 Days-11500 feet ASL) and Shumga Top (3 Nights 4 Days-12500 feet ASL) during 2015-2016 and followed my many other to cover and photograph them in different seasons. I started marketing these treks and executed them for many groups from India and abroad helping eco-tourism to grow in Shanghar area and also contributed 20% of my company’s treks income in initiatives like installing solar street lights in Shanghar meadow.
Meanwhile HMRA also employed more than 15 young unemployed unskilled youth from Shanghar area on permanent/contract basis and personally trained them about basic trekking equipment, trek friendly dishes, first aid and hospitality.
I also encouraged locals there to build single bedroom wooden cottages with attached loo and run them as homestay while I would help them with marketing as there were no place to stay in Shanghar till 2015.
I stayed in the first few home stays to help them with marketing and hospitality as tourism was new to them.
In 2017 I did biggest trek of my life till then, the famous frozen river trek in Ladakh, Chadar Trek in which I walked upon a sheet of ice upon flowing Zanskar river for around 80 KMS and 7 days in temperatures ranging from minus fifteen at day to minus forty at night and off-course we stayed in tents. That was great adventure!
After coming back from Chadar I did first recce of snow treks in Shanghar checking the possibilities on Thini top trail and after that HMRA conducted snow treks in Shanghar and around every year from December to March providing a means to earn even in the tough winter season for locals.
Whenever I got time I also explored other remote villages of Sainj and nearby valleys which are devoid of tourism till then like Thachi, Jhanjheli, Devidarh, Prashar Lake,, Sharchi, Bagha Sarahan to name a few.
In 2017 end HMRA Infosystems gave it’s consultancy services for the first time outside HMRA to a company called Granora Crop Seed Science Private Limited which was an agriculture based company.
From 2017 to 2019 I saw pretty good growth in the number of road trips, treks and I also made a pool of around 50 small properties in Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh, Uttrakhand and Kashmir for which HMRA was doing official marketing for stay bookings.
In 2018 I managed to buy my first 4X4, Mahindra Scorpio Getaway which I named Armour.
I also managed to break my longest trek record by doing Raktisar Glacier trek inside GHNP main park area. Raktisar Glacier is the main source of Sainj river and is reachable by a 55 kms one side hard trek crossing villages of Shakti and Maror. While I proved my trek fitness with this trek, it also opened a whole new category of treks for HMRA which was moderate and tough.
In 2019 I did my first international rides and rode to Bhutan and Nepal leading the road trips organised by HMRA.
I also rode in Sikkim including a new region in HMRA’s portfolio.
HMRA was employing more than 20 people and I was sure it was time for expansion!
And then came, the 2020. After all the growth I saw between 2013 to 2019, I saw a complete zero in 2020.
It was March 21 2020 when I was coming back from my winter exploration trip to Chanshal Pass in Himachal Pradesh in Armour when I was stopped by police in Sainj at 10 PM to ask about why we were traveling.
And two days later a country wide strict lockdown was announced and I got confined inside my cottage with great views in Shanghar.
Soon I realised that lockdown is not going to end very soon so I got good amount of rations along with one of my trekking ally from Shanghar and went on an endless trek to stay on the Thini mountain. I trekked and stayed on Thini mountain for around 18 days after which I came back in network to Shanghar in April 2020 just to find out that lockdown was still going on!
Soon with the same guy I embarked on another same kind of trek on the Shumga mountain. After spending around 11 days on Shumga I met with an accident on the a steep point of Shumga ridge while sliding on a snow patch which injured muscles around my thighs, neck, rib cage, shoulder and back bone.
I did not realise then how worse it was and soon ended the trek and made a memorable road journey to my hometown Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh in May 2020. Next three months I was almost on bed rest and after visiting all sort of doctors I realised that my healing will take time!
Off-course my travelling got limited only to driving and that too rarely and travel income as well remained on the negligible marks.
I faced it all in positive manner and tried to concentrate more on writing and my IT company HMRA Infosystems. I completed many long stories by 2021 and build IT project pipelines by fixing onsite offices in various foreign countries like Australia, USA, UK and countries from Europe like Poland.
Apart from it I started focussing more on my Instagram handle (@himalayanmonkrider) on which I had around 700 followers in June 2020.
One of the story written by me went underway for a full fledged Hindi movie and
one book in which I was co-author went under publishing.
I also secured first round of investment for HMRA by an angel investor in 2021 while doing few Himalayan trips mostly in SUVs.
I co-founded Manch, an online art sharing platform and has been appointed as CEO of Granora also in 2021.
I bifurcated HMRA brand into separate brands doing different kind of trips like Himalayan Monk Riders Association (motorcycle rides), Himalayan Adventure Travel (treks, adventure activities and 4×4 trips), Himalayas Unlimited (leisure trips, religious trips, wellness trips), Himalayan Stays (stay booking), Work from Himalayas (Workation/long term stay booking), Trip Monks (cultural, wildlife and heritage trips in Asia Pacific). We launched separate websites and social media handles for all the above brands in 2021.
By start of 2022 I felt 90% fit and hence took upon my longest motorcycle trip by then in January doing Assam and Arunachal Pradesh in 19 days and around 6500 kilometers.
HMRA started working on it’s first non-Indian web and launched poland.hmra.in
I started taking international orders on Enfield Monk web portal and catered orders from more than 10 different countries other than India.
I lead HMRA’s first road trip to new highest pass in the world Umling La in Ladakh.
In September 2022 I figured out a virgin peak in Suchaingarh Glacier area inside GHNP, I planned and sponsored the first recce of that peak which I wanted to name Hope but sadly weather did not permit the team to reach the glacier. We will do our next attempt in April 2023. With this expedition I want to open the most extreme form of treks inside GHNP and then will market them in the western countries to increase foreigner footfall in Sainj Valley.
I also explored more places in Sainj Valley like Dhaugi, Raila, Shenshar, Dehuri, Dalogi and tried to put them on tourism map as well so that tourism not remain focussed only in Shanghar.
In November 2022 I finally embarked my youtube journey through my channels @sharadtyagiofficial and @himalayanmonkrider with a ride I always dreamt about.
The India Ride.
On this ride I started from Gwalior on my birthday in November 2022 unsure of how long I will go!
Later I completed chapter one of my India ride in 36 days after riding for around 6700 kms iexploring Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamilnadu, Kerala and Goa.
In 2023 January I started Chapter 02 of my India ride and rode to Shanghar in Himachal Pradesh by mid January.
Keep learning. Live your dreams. Be a creator. Be peaceful. Explore the world.
MY PHILOSOPHY OF LIFE
My philosophy of life is pretty simple. I live a free life. I am open to learn and see new things, places and people. I do not associate myself with any religion though I find preachings of Buddha and Osho very logical.I totally believe in peaceful ways of living and functioning which must be in harmony with the nature or environment. I am also greatly inspired by Mahatma Gandhi and Bhagat Singh politically. I think all living creatures on this planet live life only once and in this life they should totally explore in best of their capabilities. I think dreams should be seen more with open eyes and one should live a life in making efforts to make dreams the reality.

MY DREAMS
I have lived lot my dreams in my life till now and still living but as far as travel & adventure go, after my India ride in which I wish to ride into every district of India I want to a road trip to all possible parts of the earth with no limitation on number of days. I also want to climb to all 8000 meter peaks of Himalayas after doing my first high altitude peak in Great Himalayan National Park in Himachal Pradesh.
I dream to write a lot of fiction short and long stories which can remain timeless like Premchand and Shakespeare.
I wish to write the literature which can help Hindi survive this modern day era of short videos.
